How'd you become a holistic doula?
and other FAQs

What is a holistic doula?

A holistic doula incorporates the whole person - mind, body, and soul - into their supportive care. By incorporating my clients this way, I hold space for birth as a sacred transformation and not necessarily a medical event. Of course, medical interventions have their time and place but I support clients physiology and intuition first. We may also cover desires and fears, increase awareness of your bodies energy, understanding physiological and unmedicated birth, when or why to seek medical interventions, and more on top of traditional doula supportive care.

What led you to becoming a holistic doula?

Incorporating the whole person just made sense to me! After becoming a certified holistic nutritionist in 2017, I learned that all aspects of our life are connected and can not be separated. For example, how you fuel your body will directly effect how you can mentally handle situations. That's why I looked for a different doula certification that was more than a weekend seminar and a few books. Through By the Moon, a 10-month long program, I was able to learn and apply this holistic knowledge.

What does emotional and physical support look like?

Truly caring and investing in the birthing person and her family's desires and needs throughout pregnancy and birth are my top priorities through emotional support. Using physical support during pregnancy and labor will look like practicing comfort measures and hands-on laboring techniques before the big day arrives. As a Body Ready Method pro, I may also suggest certain movements or positions to help baby engage, decent further into the pelvis, or help baby find a better birthing position.
